Floor Removal and Replacement

Floor Removal and Replacement

Floor Removal

Before you install any new flooring, your old flooring more than likely needs to be removed first. Whether you are renovating your home or a business updating your floors, we can step in to remove your old floors and replace them with new, fresh floors that match your functional needs and style preferences. Here is an overview of our process for removing various types of flooring.

Carpet Removal

We start by cutting carpet into manageable, smaller sections and then roll them all up for easy disposal. We then pull up any tack strips or staples that secured the carpet to the subfloor. If there are any areas where the carpet had damaged the integrity of the subfloor, we will repair that. Then your subfloor is prepared for whatever new flooring you would like.

Tile and Stone Floor Removal

We use various tools including drills, dremels, hammers and chisels to break apart and remove each individual tile or stone. We then scrape any remaining mortar, grouts and adhesives from the subfloor. This can be a messy and laborious process, and to ensure the proper technique to minimize damage to the subfloor, hiring professionals is recommended.

Hardwood Floor Removal

We begin by removing all baseboards and trim from the edges of the room. We then gently pry up each floorboard, using different types of saws and crowbars if needed.

Laminate Floor Removal

Laminate is often helped to stay in place by the presence of baseboard trim and molding. We begin by removing all baseboard trim around the perimeter of the room. If it is a floating floor or lock-and-click system, we remove each board one at a time. If it is laminate that has been glued down, we use a floor scraper to lift and remove all material.

Vinyl and Linoleum Floor Removal

Vinyl or linoleum that is loose may be able to be simply peeled away from the subfloor. For materials that are glued down, we will need to use floor scrapers to remove all material and then scrape away any remaining adhesive.

Floor removal can be a very messy and labor-intensive process, and the best method depends on various factors. Hiring professionals for your floor removal is essential to prevent damage to your subfloors, which would require more extensive repairs before we are able to install your new floors. We can help remove old existing floors even if you plan to install the new flooring yourself. Additionally, if you are working with us to install new floors, we make sure to do our due diligence to remove your old floors properly and thoroughly before starting an install.
